Choosing a crystal that’s right for you
Choosing which crystal to bring home can seem like a daunting task. With so many crystal out there, how do you choose the crystal that is right for you?
There are several ways to choose a crystal.
You can select a crystal based on its general properties. For example you want to be more grounded so you choose a hematite or you want to bring more love into your life so you choose a rose quartz.
You can go by your intuition and choose a crystal because you are attracted to it. For example, you pick up a red jasper, it feels so good in your hand that you never want to put it down.
You can choose to do a combination of the above, have a general idea of what type of crystal you want based in its properties and then pick up different pieces one at a time to see which feels right.
Sometimes a crystal will find you. Perhaps someone will give you a crystal or you will randomly come across a crystal and become so attached to it that you will not be able to put it down; you will feel like you “must have it!” This is because crystals come into our lives because we are meant to be their keepers. If we do not find them, they will find us.
When selecting a crystal from a store, the first and best thing you can do is to allow your body and your inner knowing to guide you. Look around the store, see what pulls you, pick up a crystal, walk around with it and see how you feel when holding it. When you find a crystal that you can’t take your eyes off or put down, that’s when you will know that the crystal is the right one for you. More often than not, the price of the crystal will be one you can afford.
If you are looking on the internet, you can use the same process. Look through the various pages of crystals and see what catches your eye. Usually what you are drawn to is what you need. Trust what your intuition is telling you, you know what you need.
But what if your intuition is telling you that the crystal is for you, but something does not feel right?
It could be that you are drawn to this type of crystal but not this specific specimen. There could be another piece that you would like better. For example, say you find yourself attracted to an amethyst but you are not 100% happy with the particular piece you are holding. It may be too big, too small, out of your price range or perhaps you just don’t like the way it looks. In this case, look for another amethyst, one of a different size, shade or shape. Look for a piece that calls out to you completely on all levels and trust that you are being guided correctly.
Another reason you may feel something “off” about a particular crystal has to do with the energy it may had absorbed from its previous keepers or locations. The crystal may be energetically dirty. If you feel that a crystal is for you even though something seems “off”, go ahead and buy it, bring it home, clean and charge it. You may be surprised at the shift that takes place simply by clearing a crystal. (Click here to learn how to clear the energy of crystals.)
Understanding crystals takes practice and a willingness to be open to new experiences. Have fun selecting your crystals and enjoy the process of getting to know them. The more time you spend with crystals, the more you will connect with them and the more you will see their beauty and power.
